Autumn Vibes!

Autumn is one of my favourite times of the year, from the moment schools go back after the summer holidays, I think of new beginnings a clean sheet to go forward with.

For example, a chance to refresh the year, think differently, act differently.  I think I got this from when I was at school (just a year or two ago now lol).  Time for a new pencil case, new pens and pads, new resolutions for the balance of the year.  Most definitely a time to cosy down.

Yes, I love the long summer evenings, but the downside for me is that I never stop finding jobs to do, whilst it is still light outside.  Hence the chance to draw the curtains earlier, light a fire/candle, put on the central heating on, or duck under a cosy blanket, occasionally a hot water bottle to hand, which always seems a lovely treat. A time to read, sit listening to music, flicking through magazines for new ideas on home décor, garden, meals and the likes.  More frequent visits to the cinema, try a few crafts old and some new ones and the list goes on….

I recently learnt of the word “Hygge”, am I the only person not to have heard of this term? Interestingly, I believe it stems from Denmark, and is embraced by the Danish people and that of the Norwegians. A time for cosiness with a convivial atmosphere. Who knew it, my thoughts and ways had a name - which describes what I naturally did!

I asked AI to generate me an image showcasing the essence of Hygge, here is the beautiful result:

It is time for going through the wardrobe, and somehow, those thicker sweaters, scarves and hats and gloves have an appeal… we start to browse for new items, to liven up our wardrobes, a new coat/jacket/boots. An ex-colleague/good friend, just loved to get her thick tights out, and of course time to reach for the much needed vest, to stop the colder air from gaps in our clothing.

I love to have friends over for simple warming suppers, think cottage pie, curries, casseroles and dumplings along with a card or board game, with a drink or two and a few laughs.

“Hygge” is a chance for some “restorative practice”, enjoy the simple thinks in life, harmony, comfort, togetherness, and being in the present!

Colours at this time of the year are also awesome, I always used to change my hair colour, by adding some coppers and reds to it, however, less so these days, as fairer hair does not show the grey ones so quickly, it does not stop me looking for those colours in clothes though, on comes the greens, browns and golds.  Those Autumnal walks enjoying the colour change to the magnificent trees, scrunching on the leaves and being able to see through the hedgerows after some 5+ months, where we have been unable to see anything.

Basically, summarising the above, my Autumn is a time for renewal, a chance to reflect on the year to date, tweaking things, relaxing more, change of diet and a change in clothes I wear, what I do in my spare time, especially how I socialise etc.

I would love to hear how you feel about Autumn, plus did you know the term “Hygge” and did you unknowing practice it, like I did?

Happy "Hygge"
