V’s Top Tips when searching for the perfect pressie + the art of presenting...Part 2!

If you have not read part one of my ‘Top Tips’, maybe take a look at it here on my website, as this is a series of 3 parts.

We all without realising it follow a process, albeit that we do not think we have one, but for sure there are often steps we miss, and it can make a difference to how good our choices were.

As I stated in part one of the series, you need to consider budget’ don’t get carried away, this often leads to consequences. Listening’ is key, what have they said recently. What are their ‘Interests’ list them down, Beautiful Packaging’ make that gift look amazing and show that you cared.

Let’s look at another couple of important points:

TOP TIP – Replacement gifts

What do I mean replacement gifts?  I mean exactly that, it doesn’t have to be a great new item, something they have not got already, we tend to think it should be something like that  (I tended too), that can be a risky strategy unless you really know them well.

  • Most people would rather have a replacement item for example

  • New golf balls, socks (yoga, football etc), their favourite body/hand lotion, candle, diffuser etc. you get the idea, rather than something new and gimmicky, which possibly might end up in the drawer or straight to the charity shop / landfill.

  • People today value these practical gift, as it leaves their money saved for those items, we could never have thought of, or come to that, have afforded.  These items might go in the drawer for a few months, but they WILL come out and they WILL be utilised.

TOP TIP - Observation is very important!

What have you observed over time for e.g. do they wear ‘jewellery’ - if so what type: costume, precious metal/ gold/silver/rose gold, do they mix it up.  Personally, I don’t mix my metals – maybe that is me.

  • Do they have pierced ears or not?  Many times I have sat their scrolling through photos, to try and determine the answer to these questions.

  • What colour do they favour / what colours suit them

If you cannot afford precious metals, there are some excellent affordable metal jewellery out there that is anti-tarnish and you can hardly tell the difference, in fact today, it is near impossible.

  • When buying costume jewellery, if it has metallic elements involved, choose the ones that will go with their favoured precious metals.

  • Do they wear bracelets or just necklaces etc. you get the picture.

This applies to everything you might buy, if stationery, do they like funky or plainer items and so on…

Person smiling because they've received a lovely present.

Finally REPEAT of Top Tip from first blog:

TOP TIP – Beautiful Packaging!

Normally, I would have left this one to the be my last Top Tip in the series, but I think it is key to share in each of this series, as for me this is very important…plus you might be buying a gift before part 3 is completed.

Beautiful thoughtful packaging adds a big – big statement to the gift.

  • Maybe a plain brown box, with lovely bright ribbons & bows in their favourite colour – maybe a handmade gift tags, lots of ideas on line.

  • Maybe quality gift wrap, showing their favourite pastime, e.g. horses, cats, football etc. – show that every element has been carefully thought about.  (Often sale time, you can pick up beautiful boxes and a fraction of the cost).

  • Just because your gift might not have a big budget, you can make the recipient absolutely know that your gift from start to finish was purchased with care.

  • Make them feel as they should, and that their special day is special to you too, show how much you care.
